One of our digital call center’s favorite group activities is volunteering in our community. When our team of virtual receptionists are not answering your business’s telephone calls, we’re out supporting various charities and volunteer groups in the Orlando, Florida area. We find it incredibly important to give back to those in need and love rolling up our sleeves to help in any way we can.
Here are some of our favorite motivational quotes about volunteering that will get you in the giving-spirit. If you have other quotes that motivate and inspire you to volunteer, please share with our community and followers by posting them on our Facebook Page here.
“A pessimist, they say, sees a glass of water as being half empty; an optimist sees the same
glass as half full. But a giving person sees a glass of water and starts looking for someone who
might be thirsty.” – G. Donald Gale
We can all learn a thing about perspective when reading this G. Donald Gale quote. We love this generous quote because it allows us to expand our mind on how volunteering can be a philosophy that you bring to any situation you come across. Rather than being pessimistic or optimistic, try to be philanthropic and help someone in need.
“No one has ever become poor by giving.” – Anne Frank
These words, as written by a teenager surrounded by war, resonates within our hearts. Have you ever heard of someone becoming poor because of their need to give to others? We haven’t and welcome any stories that contradict this beautiful and profound truth.
“We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop.” Mother Teresa
As you may know, Mother Teresa was the recipient of numerous honors, including the 1979 Nobel Peace Prize. She has many beautiful quotes about giving back but we really love this one in particular. When you think about volunteering you may be hesitant because you think that you can’t make a difference; you’re only one person. This quote reminds us that any effort, small or large, is still an effort put forth for the greater good of your community.
“Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared.” – Buddha
We love this motivational quote because it inspires us to initiate that light; to be the first that others take example from. It’s true, our happiness cannot be minimized if we share that joy with others. So why not spend a little time volunteering and helping spread the light throughout your community to bring a little joy to those suffering around you.
“Who then can so softly bind up the wound of another as he who has felt the same wound himself.” – Thomas Jefferson
Have you ever had that worried feeling of how you’re going to pay rent next month? Maybe you have known the stomach pain caused by being hungry and not having enough food to survive. Or maybe there were times in your childhood when you were left feeling unloved. Since we know some of these hardships, we also know how hopeless times can seem. Thomas Jefferson is right in saying that we can help to heal familiar wounds we see in others.
“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” – Mahatma Gandhi
If you have ever volunteered, you’ll probably agree with this Ghandi quote. Most of the time, when we volunteer, we feel that we’re getting more value than we’re actually giving. It’s amazing how wonderful your heart feels after receiving a genuine thank you from someone accepting your help. In that humility, you may find a deeper purpose of your life that was hidden before you actively started giving back.
“Volunteers don’t get paid, not because they’re worthless, but because they’re priceless.” – Sherry Anderson
Nothing more can be added to this simplistic quote showcasing the importance of volunteering.
“There is no better exercise for your heart, than reaching down and helping to lift someone up.” – Bernard Meltzer
We love this quote by Barnard Meltzer because we have seen, firsthand, what health benefits come with giving your time to those in need. In support of this idea, not only are we bringing you these quotes about volunteering, we also want to share some interesting health related statistics:
- 76% of people who volunteered in the last twelve months said that volunteering has made them feel healthier.
- 94% of people who volunteered in the last twelve months said that volunteering improved their mood.
- 78% of them said that volunteering lowered their stress levels.
- 96% reported that volunteering enriched their sense of purpose in life.
- 80% of them feel like they have control over their health.
“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” – Unknown
Although some have accredited these wise words of wisdom to Winston Churchill, it’s unclear as to who exactly shared them first. This quote reminds us that yes, we have to spend our time at our day job in order to pay bills and have a desired lifestyle. But what really gives meaning to our life is being able to give back and help those in our community that are in need.
“Volunteers do not necessarily have the time; they have the heart.” – Elizabeth Andrew
It’s not that volunteers have all this extra time in their lives to devote to helping others. The beautiful thing about volunteers is that we ‘make’ the time to help others. Being a 24-hour digital call center, our virtual receptionists have shifts that are highly irregular. Our team has to provide phone coverage during the graveyard shifts, over the weekend and throughout the night. However, we still find time to come together and serve food at our favorite soup kitchen or pack healthy meals for hungry children.
